Biography of Anthony J. Wiggins

Tony Wiggins was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Tucson in 1979. He received his Associate of Arts degree, with High Honors, from the College of DuPage, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, in 1979. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree, with Distinction, from the University of Arizona in 1982. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arizona College of Law in 1985. He worked with the Mercaldo Law Firm for 20 years, between 1986 and 2006, after a clerkship at an insurance defense firm and a brief stint at the Tucson City Prosecutor’s Office. He opened the Wiggins Law Offices in July 2006.

Mr. Wiggins is licensed to practice in all courts in the state of Arizona, the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.

Mr. Wiggins is a member of the Board of Directors and a Sustaining Member of the Arizona Association for Justice, (formerly known as the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association). He is a member of the State Bar of Arizona (Trial Practice Section), the American Association for Justice, (formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), the American Bar Association (Section of Litigation), and the Pima County Bar Association.

Mr. Wiggins has earned an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest rating given by Martindale-Hubbell. An AV Preeminent rating indicates that other lawyers rate Mr. Wiggins among the very best in the profession.

Mr. Wiggins has spoken at several seminars providing continuing legal education for other lawyers. He was a member of a panel presenting a continuing education program on Governmental Liability for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse at the 1990 State Bar of Arizona Convention, and has presented a continuing legal education seminar regarding damages in civil actions. More recently he spoke at seminars regarding recent developments in medical malpractice from the patient’s perspective in 2004, developments in uninsured and underinsured automobile insurance coverages in 2006, 2007 and 2008, representing plaintiffs in personal injury cases in 2007 and presenting evidence and expert witnesses at trial in 2010. He continues to give an annual lecture to paralegal students at Pima Community College regarding automobile insurance and claims.

Mr. Wiggins continues to handle cases involving people injured by trucking accidents, liquor seller or dram shop liability, road maintenance and design, drunk drivers, motor vehicle accidents, dog bites or other animal attacks, dental malpractice, premises liability and appeals in addition to the medical malpractice cases that have been the primary focus of his career. Mr. Wiggins has worked with counsel from other states, including California, Massachusetts, Montana, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin to handle cases in Arizona and successfully recover damages for their clients.
